Women
wear the Dohru. It is draped like a sarong with pleats at the
back and secured at the shoulders with pins called 'Bumni'. The
ground is 2/2 twill woven in natural colours using locally available
wool or merino wool while patterned designs are woven on both
the borders.
Some dohrus are also used as quilts. They are longer in length
and are woven in coarser wool spun into thick cordage. Blankets
of Himachal Pradesh are generally made from local wool in checks
and stripes. Some blankets are woven on frame loom whereas for
local market it is woven on pitloom in two pieces of half width
and are later joined from the center with a fine and elaborate
stitching.
