HIMBUNKAR has been sanctioned two STEP (Support to Training and Employment Programme) projects by the Department of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in the recent years. HIMBUNKAR has been implementing these projects amongst co-operative societies all over Himachal Pradesh in order to provide profitable employment to the women beneficiaries.

The project of shawl weaving was basically carried out to bring into mainstream the women belonging to SC/ST, weaker section, female headed households/ Antoyadaya families & adolescent girls and enabling them to earn & improve their economic & social status. This new project of carpet weaving was sanctioned in the year 1999. Under this project HIMBUNKAR is to provide training and employment to women belonging to weaker section of the society and for this purpose six districts of the state have been selected.
